General Service (GS) vs. Hydrography

General Service (Executive): These officers are the backbone of the ship's fighting capabilities. They specialize in Navigation, Gunnery, Anti-Submarine Warfare, and Electronic Warfare. Ultimately, they progress to command Indian Naval Ships (INS).

Hydrography Cadre: If you have a penchant for geography and high-tech surveying, this is the specialized sub-branch for you. Hydrographic officers spend time onboard specialized survey ships, mapping the ocean floor and coastal waters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Commanding sea-going platforms and managing the crew.
• Operating advanced weapon systems and sensors.
• Conducting hydrographic surveys to ensure safe maritime trade routes (for Hydro cadre).
• Oceanographic research and disaster management support.
